About the Role
Rotate8 is seeking a mechanical engineer to help address critical food problems in the agricultural industry by developing innovative technology to better our planet. This person will work on projects related to sustainable farming automation, including IoT, mobile robotics, and more. This role is a heavily hands-on, build oriented role and requires someone who thrives in a machine shop environment and loves prototyping and iterating on designs.
The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, enjoys learning and receiving feedback, is comfortable working both in a team and independently, and is willing to try new ideas that are non-traditional in the mainstream farming industry.
Compensation: $60-85K/year starting rate. Full-time employees are eligible for unlimited paid time-off & certain personal healthcare coverage reimbursement costs.
Applicants must be comfortable commuting to our location in Half Moon Bay, CA, 5 days a week.
Role Responsibilities
Collaborate on design of mechanical systems
Fabricate components and assemblies
Maintain fabrication machinery including 3D printers, laser cutters, plasma cutters, drill presses, etc.
Help maintain lab organization and inventory
Debug and resolve system issues
Collaborate with hardware and software teams to make system architecture and design decisions
Create technical documentation, assembly instructions, etc.
Self-directed research into the best solution for the problem at hand
Preferred Experience
BS in mechanical engineering or a related major (Robotics, Mechatronics, etc). Candidates without a degree but with sufficient hands-on experience will be considered
1-3 years of experience developing professional mechanical systems or sufficient project based experience
Familiarity with machine shop tools as well as rapid prototyping tools
Integration with electro-mechanical systems
Hands-on skills such as sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, general machining, welding, electrical wiring, soldering, and basic troubleshooting/repairs.
Technical writing and communication skills
Knowledge of or desire to learn sustainable farming practices
